Tastemakers in Hong Kong are well aware of gram shoes designed by Swedish mastermind Alexis Holm for its simplicity and attention to details – absolutely something mass produced shoes can’t compare to. And the AW13 collection seems to carry the same aesthetics but with a new twist – thanks to Swedish fashion designer Carin Wester (our editor called it her Stockholm favourite).
With ‘Kuro’ (meaning ‘black’ in Japanese) as the theme, Gram’s A/W13 collection ‘plays’ with solemn tones of grey and darkest navy. As usual full grain drum-dyed leather, as well as Korean made ballistic nylon, graphic prints, 12oz dyed cotton canvas, is something men should look at this collection for. The collection is all about sophistication; simple shapes, clean lines, attention to detail. An elegant sports vibe reverberates through the whole collection. The spectrum of materials is kept to a minimum allowing the shapes and combinations of colour to speak clearly. Top stitching is being tucked away with new models constructed entirely around the more complex stitch&turn technique. A point to note, the designer adopts a more technical 3M Scotchguard treated microknit that offers unparalleled comfort and moisture wicking capabilities. Hints of reflective synthetic fabric are present.
So here comes another highlight of the collection: Swedish fashion designer Carin Wester participates to deliver a contemporary take on the classic 380g. Wester may not be a popular name in Hong Kong but it in no way means it shouldn’t be. Carin Wester is one of the most outstanding Swedish fashion designers and is an out-and-out minimalist. Her designers always bear simple silhouettes, sometimes even with bold twists like massive cutout backs. In typical Carin Wester fashion, the shoe combines interesting irregular angles with elegant detailing. All in a sober colour scheme with tell tale hints of colour. A midsole is added for increased outsole height and a moulded toe cap detail on the front intertwine timeless style with new ideas.
The new collection is available at squarestreet at 15 Square Street, Sheung Wan. Also check www.gramstore.com for more styles.
